This past weekend I was faced with a difficult choice as the All Cities Open competition hosted by Dallas Central CrossFit closed in. I wanted to convince myself that I should/could compete, but that side of the list containing reasons I maybe should sit this one out was piling high. After much contemplation I felt like my desire to compete was perhaps a bit selfish. I desperately wanted to repeat last year's success and test my ability amongst an even stronger field of competitors this year, but I also had other commitments that needed to be fulfilled. While it is not necessarily wrong for me to want to compete, I felt like this desire had to be curbed for some other priorities in my life right now.
These are a couple of pictures of my 7/8th Grade Basketball Team. We took 3rd place over the weekend at our Holiday Classic Tournament.
Happy 3rd Birthday Alexis!!
Because I chose not to go to Dallas, I was able to bake cupcakes and take them to Alexis' school on Friday afternoon to celebrate her birthday.
I feel like I made the right decision in fulfilling my role as a mom and a coach this past weekend. Am I bummed I didn't get my shot to compete with the best of friends? Ya, a little, but I don't regret my decision to sit this one out either. Not to mention I came down with the stomach flu, but hey, "all things work together for the good." I am really proud of my training buddies Lisa Thiel and Carey Kepler who took first and third, respectively, and Jeremy Thiel and Big Mike, who locked in first and second on the men's side.
Until next time... keep training hard!
Hey Lindsey. While I would have enjoyed seeing you compete this past weekend, I have nothing but respect and admiration for your decision to fulfill your other commitments. It just goes to prove that you are not just a great athlete, but a great person as well.
